Disable Windows Update using Registry Settings!

As you may have noticed, there is no option to turn off Windows Updates using the Control Panel or Settings app in Windows 11 and Windows 10, as it used to be with earlier versions of Windows. This makes a normal user with Low Internet Bandwidth to lose their data mostly on Updating the windows. Also, each time an update gets installed, the Boot/Shutdown/Restart process is delayed because of this update process…

As you can see in the below image, the earlier versions of Windows like Windows XP/7/8/8.1 had an option for disabling the automatic windows update.

Starting from Windows 10 they don’t provide an option to Disable the updates. Because of these continuous updates, users are losing either their Data or their System Performance/Time etc.

So, Here I describe you, How to disable the Windows Update Permanently by using Registry Editor in Windows 11 and Windows 10:

WARNING
These are very advanced settings, and If you make any mistake in these steps, it could damage your OS. So please do this at your own risk. You can run a script I already made if you are scared to do below steps.

You can Block all Updates by running Update_Disable.reg file, and roll back all settings by running Reset_Settings.reg

Or you can follow the steps below:

  • Open Start and type “Registry Editor” and open the Registry Editor from the list
  • Click Yes if any confirmation is asked, and the Registry Editor will be open
  • Now, navigate to the following Keys one by one:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WaaSMedicSvc

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsoSvc

  • Each of these Keys will contain a value named “Start
  • Open the value and change the existing value to 4
  • Click OK
  • Repeat this process for each of the 3 Keys I mentioned above
  • Restart your computer

That’s it! The Windows Update will be now completely Disabled. If you need to update the Windows later manually, you will have to roll back the above steps.
